The operator interfaces with the VIMS system through the Advisor Display Module. The module has an LCD screen that displays machine system information, events, diagnostics and payload data. The module also allows the operator to customize settings to fit the individual and application.
NOTE: The VIMS Advisor display menus and information may differ between machine models.
The display panel features the following types of information:
- Menus and submenus to navigate from one screen to another
- System information
- System status
- Operator warnings
The information displayed is dependent on the menu or the submenu selected.
The menu shown on the display in the illustration is the HOME Menu.
The buttons on the right side of the Advisor display module are used to navigate
through the menu structure and access data. The buttons perform the following
functions:
The LEFT/UP arrow button (1) is used to:
- Navigate LEFT or UP through the menus, submenus and data
- To highlight a menu or number item in the direction of either arrow. (“Operator” is
currently highlighted at left)
- Decrease a setting value
The DOWN/RIGHT arrow button (2) has the same function as (1) but in opposite
directions.
The BACK button (3) is used to go up one level in the menu structure, or to return to
the previous screen. Or, the BACK button is also used as a backspace or cancel key to
delete unwanted characters just selected.
The HOME button (4) is used to return to the home menu screen, regardless of what
Several menu items exist in Advisor that are not related to VIMS and will not be
covered. The typical options available from the Advisor’s Home Menu screen related to
VIMS on large wheel loaders and large mining trucks are:
- Operator - Allows operator profile management- Create, Delete etc.
- Service - Allows viewing of VIMS information and manual triggering of snapshots
and data logger. Service mode may be password protected to allow only viewing.
- Settings - Displays VIMS Payload settings (Trucks only).
- Payload - Displays current Payload settings, and status or “state” of current load
cycle.
- Monitor - Allows customization of which four parameters to display in real time.
- Grade - Other menu item information can be found in the machine OMM or System
Operation in SIS.
- Service Mode - Used to enable the optional password protected functions in
Service menu.
Operator aallows customization of settings to for up to ten profiles. Profile names can
be set to operator names, numbers, sites, etc. The profile name is displayed in VIMSpc
Payload reports. The available settings are shown in the next figure. The menu
options available are
- Select Profile - choose a saved profile to be used.
- View/Save Current - make changes to the current profile. When selected, the
current settings will be shown, and can be changed per menu instructions. Save is
then used to permanently change the settings.

entering the name with numbers and/or letters, and saving the new profile.
- Delete Profile - Select a profile and follow menu instructions to delete.

These settings may be viewed in the Edit/Save mode without saving.

The Cat ET Service Tool must be used to set a password for access to Service Mode.
Service Mode is accessed by attaching VIMSpc to the VIMSpc Port and connecting to
the machine.
To configure a password using Cat ET:
1. Connect Cat ET to the machine.
2. Select the Monitor ECM.
3. Select Configuration from the Service menu.
4. Select Service Mode Enable Code.
5. Press the Change button. A screen will appear for entering a password.
6. Enter a password.
The password is shown in Cat ET.
Service Mode allows the user to enable or disable password protected features in the
Service function. However no VIMS features are password protected. Only Tattletales
and some calibrations on some machines are protected.
Whenever the machine is powered down, Service Mode returns to Disabled status.
Thus whenever the protected features are needed, Service Mode must be first set to
Enabled.
To access the Service function:
1. Select Service Mode from the HOME menu.
2. Press OK. (Use the OK button to toggle between Enabled and Disabled status of the
Service function.)
3. Enter the password to activate Enabled, if a password has been set.
4. Press the Home button when finished.
Note: When VIMSpc is attached and communicating, a password is not needed.
See You Soon!!!
