SETTING MENU:
To access the Display Setup menu, select Settings from the Home menu and press the OK button. The following display parameters may be adjusted:
- Language
- Units
- Contrast
- Headlights ON Dimming (or Lights ON)
(adjust backlight level when lights on)
- Headlights OFF Dimming (or Lights OFF)
- Date Format
- Time Format
VIMS information is affected by Language, Units, Date and Time Format. When a parameter is selected, menu options are displayed on the left half of the screen, and information is displayed on the right half of the screen.
Parameters for Truck Payload Monitoring System (TPMS) are set under the Settings -> VIMS -> Payload menu, containing the following:
- Load Count - shows the total number of loads (body up-down cycles). It can be reset to 0.
- Target Payload - used to control payload lamps, and serve as reference for overload warnings. Some overloading is expected. Caterpillar’s 10/10/20 rule of thumb says that 10% of loads will be 10% overloaded, and none should exceed 20% overload. This assumes the target payload is set at the nominal load rating of the truck. Raising the target above nominal value can increase average loads, but also increase wear on the truck. Machine Speeds along with the quality and type of the haul road are major factors to consider as well.
Lower targets may be set, but accuracy is reduced as the target is reduced below nominal rating.
The truck should be empty when changing the setting.
NOTE: Advisor must be in Service Mode to change information in the VIMS menu, and will require a password, if set.
Use up/down arrow to change target payload. Select OK when finished. Be sure to note the units shown on the screen, to use the correct target numbers as shown below.
Payload Overload Limit - the percent overload that triggers operator warnings. Acceptable range is 105%-120% Or, the warning system can be disabled by entering 0% (default).
Green TPMS Lamp - The external green lamp is on when it is OK to keep loading. Red TPMS Lamp - The external red lamp status is as follows.
- Flashing - One more pass
- Steady - Full load
The warning lamps can be set to be active or inactive.
Last Pass Status - This flashes when one more load will reach full (>95% or target). It can be disabled here.
Example - Payload Limits
- Target is set to nominal rating
- Overload set at 120%
- Overload Event occurs and operator is warned half way between target and limit, or 110% in this case.
- Category 2 and 2S Overload Events occur above limit and gear and engine speeds are limited, as shown.
PAYLOAD MENU:
The Payload menu for trucks provides the following information:
Payload State - The state of the payload (load cycle status) will be one of the following:
- Loading: (External Green lamp on) The module senses the beginning of the load cycle. This is caused by the sudden impact of the first load. Note that a conveyor loading system is not compatible with the VIMS payload system because no significant impact is created.
- Last Pass: (External Red lamp flashing). One additional pass from the loading machine will fill the dump body to maximum capacity. This corresponds to 95-100% of the target load being reached with the last load. If an unusually small loader is used, it may take two passes to achieve Full status.
- Loaded: (External Red lamp solid) The dump body is fully loaded, 95% or greater. Payload - Calculated weight for the payload Target - Target payload weight
The Advisor "Payload" menu option on Loaders allows the user to view the following information:
- Site Information
- View Reports
- Calibration
- Payload Horn
- Truck ID
- Reweigh Load
- Clear Load
- Delay
- Payload System
There are many options available in the Payload menu. An important option to review is the Payload System option.
Turning On/Off the Payload System
1. Select Payload System menu item
2. Press OK to toggle between Normal and Standby mode as shown below
3. Press Home key to return to Home menu
Advisor for Loaders have additional keys on the left side.
Enter Truck ID (1) - Used to select the truck being loaded from an existing list. Use Payload menu to add or modify a truck.
Store (2) - (a second button (6) is located as shown on the implement pod). The Store buttons are used by the operator to tell the system that a truck load cycle is complete.
This causes the current load value to be stored in memory. They cannot be erased after storing. The button also activates the optional Payload Horn, if set (see menu tree above for location).
Clear (3) - Erases last bucket load. Can be repeated until all loads are erased after the last Store occurred. Once stored, they cannot be erased.
Reweigh (4) - Used to accept a weight resulting from a reweigh, after a “BAD LIFT” warning.
MONITOR MENU:
The Monitor menu option allows the user to select four machine parameters to display together on the screen in real time.
Press the "OK" button to view a list of available parameters. Use the navigation buttons in order to scroll through the available parameters and select the four desired.
GRADE MENU
The Grade menu option allows the user to view the grade of the hill. The user can view the following information:
- Percentage of the grade value
- Image of the truck that represents the grade
The site manager may find it helpful to know the grade of the haul road, as it may be feasible to adjust the grade for improved machine performance, such as maintaining a higher gear or more optimal engine speed. The ability to compare machine performance on a given grade with a full load with prior performance, using the data logger may also be helpful.
See You Soon!!!
