a picture of the amazing Baldwin Centipede Locomotive. this locomotive had 12 axles and 24 wheels with 8 of the axles being powered. the power consisted of two 1500hp diesel engines driving generators which sent electricity to motors on each of the powered axles. pretty amazing for the early 1950's. 91ft long and weighing 270tons these monsters were geared for 93mph. this one is in Seaboard Air Line colors. PRR ran two of them back to back which would have been a wonderful sight to see. unfortunately they were somewhat troublesome and none of them survive.
