here's something we all use, the Phillips Screwdriver. invented by John P. Thompson and then sold to Henry F. Phillips who patented it. the tool was also named after him. in 1934 Phillips Screw Co. was formed and the design of the screw perfected for the American Screw Co. who made the screws. in 1936 GM's Cadillac Division started using the screws in its automobiles and they began to catch on. by 1940 most US screw manufacturers had them in their catalogs.
