797B Off-Highway Truck Fan Drive Hydraulic System: Motor Rotating Group (Fan Drive) - Adjust

Motor Rotating Group (Fan Drive) - Adjust

(A) Dimension of the required gap of 0.3 + 0.1 - 0.0 mm (0.0118 + 0.0039 - 0.0 inch)
(1) Piston
(2) Center pin
(3) Barrel
(4) Spring(5) Shim
Note: Dimension (A) is the gap that is required between shim (5) and the end of center pin (2) .
This procedure will determine the thickness of the shim that is needed to obtain a gap of dimension (A) .

  1. Remove spring (4) from barrel (3) .
    (B) Measured dimension
    (2) Barrel
    (3) Center pin
    (5) Shim
    (6) Motor shaft
    (7) Retaining ring(8) Port plate

  1. Install the rotating group into the housing. Refer to Illustration 2.

  1. Apply 800 N (180 lb) of pulling force to motor shaft (6) in order to seat the rotating group against retaining ring (7) .

  1. Position the face of port plate (8) parallel to the face of the motor housing.

  1. Measure dimension (B) from the face of port plate (8) to the face of the motor housing.

  1. Subtract the gap dimension 0.3 + 0.1 - 0.0 mm (0.0118 + 0.0039 - 0.0 inch) (A) from the measured dimension (B). This is the thickness of shim (5) .Note: Measurement (B) - [0.3 + 0.1 - 0.0 mm (0.0118 + 0.0039 - 0.0 inch)] = Shim Thickness
Note: Refer to the Specifications, "Motor Rotating Group (Fan Drive)" for the proper shim to use.

  1. Remove barrel (2) and install spring (4) and the shim (5) that was determined in Step 6.

Assembly Procedure

Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Pump Drive - Assemble" for final adjusting of the pump drive.

Cleaning Procedure

  1. Before assembly, ensure that all parts are clean. Also, ensure that all passages are free from debris.

  1. After the pump drive is fully assembled, connect the appropriate hardware in order to power the yoke.

  1. Use SAE 10W oil at 66 °C (150 °F). The oil must meet a minimum cleanliness of the standard ISO 16/13. Supply the oil at 12 L/min (3.2 US gpm). Rotate the yoke at 2067 RPM for 20 minutes.

  1. Check for leaks, abnormal noise, or large debris in the drain port. Take corrective action if any of these problems exist.

  1. After this flushing procedure, the oil that is exiting the pump drive must meet a minimum cleanliness of the standard ISO 16/13. If the drain oil does not meet this requirement, repeat Steps 1 through 5 until the oil meets this requirement.
