770G and 772G Off-Highway Truck (OEM) Hydraulic and Braking System: Pad Assembly (Truck Body) - Install and Adjust

Proper installation of the body support pads will effectively balance the load weight. A balanced load will reduce the risk of possible damage to the chassis. If the body support pads indicate uneven wear, readjusting the shims may correct the problem. Also, if the paint on the frame indicates uneven wear, readjusting the shims may correct the problem.

Procedure To Install Pad Assemblies To The Truck Body

Detail B
(1) Pad assembly(2) Shim
Note: The truck should be on a level surface. The hoist cylinders should be installed.
Note: The pivot pin for the truck body should be installed. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly , "Pin (Body Retaining) - Remove and Install".

  1. Mark the location of pad assemblies (1) on the frame rail using the center mounting block on the truck body as a guide.

  1. Raise the truck body and install the proper safety device in order to secure the truck body in the RAISE position. Stack one pad assembly (1) and one shim (2) at each location for a pad assembly (1) on the frame rail.

  1. Remove the safety device and lower the truck body. Locate any gaps and add shims (2) in order to close the gaps.

  1. Raise the truck body and install the proper safety device in order to secure the truck body in the RAISE position. Bolt pad assemblies (1) and the shim packs to the truck body. Remove the safety device and lower the truck body.

Remove the safety device and lower the truck body. No gaps should be visible between pad assemblies (1) and the truck body.

Towing the Machine - Preparation

This machine is equipped with spring-applied parking brakes. These brakes are released with hydraulic pressure. Without adequate hydraulic pressure, the parking brakes are engaged and the machine cannot be moved.
The secondary brake system utilizes the parking brake in order to apply braking force. When the parking brake is released by oil pressure from the diverter valve, the secondary brake system will not function.
If the truck needs to be towed with a dead engine, the diverter valve must be shifted manually. The diverter valve diverts oil flow from the electric secondary pump in order to release the parking brakes.
An auxiliary power unit must be used as a separate hydraulic source to the service brakes in order to provide any braking to the machine. Without an auxiliary power unit, the service brakes will only function until the service brake accumulators are exhausted.
