Henschel-Wegmann High Speed Steam Loco

this locomotive was designed in the 1930's to pull a high speed passenger train in Germany. the Germans made a serious attempt to capture the world's speed record for steam locomotives with an engine similar to this one. they almost succeeded with a top speed of 124.5mph in 1936. the British "Mallard" locomotive outdid the Germans by 2mph in July, 1938. if the war hadn't intervened the Germans may have ultimately captured the steam speed title. "Mallard" holds it to this day is still in existence and occasionally runs in England.
