Admiral Cervera y Topete's doomed flagship the armored cruiser Infanta Maria Teresa. largely outclassed by the USN at the battle of Santiago the Infanta Maria Teresa was sunk after a valiant fight against overwhelming forces. fortunatly Admiral Cervera was not killed in this battle.
