Procedure to Install Pad Assemblies to the Main Frame

Note: The truck should be on a level surface. The pivot pin for the truck body should be installed. The hoist cylinders should be installed. Remove all shims (4) and pad assemblies (3) from pivot assembly (5) .

  1. Raise the truck body or lower the truck body so that the body rails are parallel to the frame rails.

  1. Position the ten pad assemblies (1) for the truck body on the two frame rails of the chassis in the corresponding contact areas. Five pad assemblies are located on each frame rail of the chassis.

  1. Determine the highest pad assembly (1) on each frame rail. Remove the four shorter pad assemblies from each frame rail.

  1. Slowly lower the truck body onto the two remaining pad assemblies (1).

  1. Observe the two remaining pad assemblies (1). Determine the pad assembly that contacts the frame of the truck body first. The pad assembly will establish the down position for the body.

  1. Raise the truck body. Install pad assembly (1), that was chosen in Step 5, onto the rail of the truck body.Note: Do not use any shims during the installation of this pad assembly.

  1. Install the remaining nine pad assemblies (1) to each rail of the truck body. Use the necessary shims in order to raise the pad assemblies to the height of the body down position.

  1. Wipe off the frame rails of the chassis.

  1. Apply paint to the frame rails of the chassis at the point of contact for each pad assembly.

  1. While the paint is still wet, lower the truck body completely.

  1. Raise the truck body. Examine the contact pattern that is transferred to pad assemblies (1) from the frame rails of the chassis.

  1. If necessary, install the required number of shims (2) in order to bring all pad assemblies (1) to the down position for the body.

Procedure to Install Pad Assemblies to the Top of the Main Crossbeam

Note: The truck should be on a level surface. The pivot pin for the truck body should be installed. The hoist cylinders should be installed. The pad assemblies for the body should have been installed.

  1. Raise and lower the truck body three times. This is done in order to help center the truck body.

  1. Lower the truck body completely.

  1. With the truck body in the down position, inspect the location of pedestals (6) to body rails (C) .

  1. As needed, install shims (4) in order to obtain the best contact pattern between body rails (C) and pad assemblies (3) .Note: If it is necessary to reposition the pedestals in order to align with the body rails, then refer to Step 5 through Step 9.

  1. Use 10 mm (0.39 inch) of shims (4) on each of the pivot assemblies. Place two pivot assemblies (5) and two pedestals (6) onto the top outside edge of the main crossbeam for the chassis (D) .

  1. Position two pivot assemblies (5) and two pedestals (6) toward the centerline of the truck. Place the pivot assemblies and the pedestals as close to the centerline of the truck as possible. The truck body will limit the position of the pivot assemblies and pedestals to the centerline of the truck.

  1. Ensure that both pivot assemblies (5) and both pedestals (6) are parallel to the main crossbeam of the chassis (D) .

  1. Position two pivot assemblies (5) and two pedestals (6) to the rear of the main crossbeam of the chassis (D). Ensure that the edges of the two pedestals are not on radius (E).

  1. Weld two pedestals (6) into position. Refer to Table 1 for the welding tolerances. Ensure that the weld is not on radius (E) .

  1. At the first scheduled maintenance interval, repeat Step 8 through Step 12 of "Procedure to Install Pad Assemblies to the Main Frame".
